Air conditioners typically consist of an indoor unit and an outdoor unit. If you open the air conditioner’s control panel, you’ll see a mesh-like component—this is Air conditioner filter Prolonged use can lead to dust buildup, which impairs the air conditioner’s performance. So what is the role of the air conditioner filter, and how should it be cleaned if it becomes dirty or clogged?

Air conditioner filter functions: The air conditioner filter primarily purifies the air and prevents dust from entering, thereby protecting the internal components from being clogged by large particles of dirt and avoiding unnecessary malfunctions. During operation, if the filter becomes heavily soiled and clogged, the temperature at the indoor unit’s air outlet will drop significantly, reducing the range of the airflow and slowing down the indoor air circulation, which in turn compromises the cooling performance. Moreover, excessive clogging can obstruct the drainage system or the evaporator, leading to issues such as water leakage. In such cases, the air conditioner should be cleaned promptly to prevent these problems.

Air conditioner cleaning method: Open the air conditioner’s front panel, remove the air filter, and take care not to touch the metal components of the indoor unit during disassembly to avoid injury. After removing the filter, first brush off the surface dust, then rinse it under running water. If the filter is heavily soiled, it’s best to soak it in a neutral detergent before washing. When cleaning, ensure the water temperature does not exceed 50°C. While washing the air filter, avoid deforming or damaging it. After cleaning, gently blot it dry with a soft cloth or let it air-dry in a shaded area; do not expose it to direct sunlight or use a dryer. Next, wipe away any dust on the air conditioner’s front panel, reinstall the cleaned filter, and run the cooling mode for a short while.

The above outlines the function and cleaning procedure for air-conditioner filters. Air-conditioner filters are crucial, as they effectively protect the unit by preventing dirt and grime from clogging its components and causing damage. Therefore, it is essential to clean and disinfect the filter regularly to ensure that severe dust accumulation does not introduce harmful substances and compromise indoor air quality.
