Photocatalytic Filter You may have heard this term often, but you might not know exactly what kind of product it is. Today, it is widely used in the air purification industry and is one of the more advanced filtration products available. Below, we will provide a detailed introduction.
Photocatalytic filter media are widely used in numerous industries, including antibacterial and antifungal applications, air purification, anti-fogging, and water treatment. With advances in science and technology, an increasing number of practical products incorporating this technology have been successfully commercialized. The key advantage of photocatalytic filter media is that photocatalysis can be activated simply by exposure to light, which suggests that their adoption will continue to expand globally in the future, with promising growth prospects across a wide range of application areas.

Photocatalytic Filter Its use in odor control is widespread because only a small amount of odor-causing substances needs to be treated, requiring minimal light exposure. Simply breaking down a small quantity of aldehydes in the air is sufficient to eliminate unpleasant odors, making it a simple and convenient solution.
Photocatalytic filter media are widely used in air purification, wastewater treatment, antibacterial applications, and photocatalytic fibers, among others. They offer the following specific functions:
1. Air purification
Photocatalytic filter media can effectively degrade low-concentration harmful gases generated by weak ultraviolet radiation. Studies on the major indoor gaseous pollutants—formaldehyde and toluene—have shown that the photocatalytic degradation of these pollutants is concentration-dependent. When the concentration is below 100 μg/g, formaldehyde can be completely decomposed by TiO2 photocatalysts into CO2 and H2O2; toluene at high concentrations, however, undergoes photocatalytic degradation in a manner that leads to the accumulation of recalcitrant intermediate products around the TiO2 surface, thereby inhibiting the photocatalytic reaction and resulting in very low removal efficiency. In contrast, at low concentrations, no such intermediates form on the TiO2 surface, allowing for facile oxidation of toluene.
2. Deodorization
Photocatalytic Filter It effectively deodorizes toilets, garbage, and animal odors. According to tests conducted by authoritative laboratories in Europe and the United States, a 1 cm² surface of photocatalytic material exhibits deodorizing performance 150 times greater than that of high-performance activated carbon fiber, with no secondary pollution.
Photocatalytic reactions involving acetaldehyde and other malodorous compounds demonstrate that, when the initial concentration of the odorous gas exceeds 5,000 μg/g, a significant deodorization effect is observed only under ultraviolet irradiation if the concentration drops below 1,000 μg/g; typically, fluorescent lamps can be completely removed. Similar phenomena are also observed for other odors such as methyl mercaptan and ammonia.
3. Sterilization
Superoxide capacity exhibits bactericidal activity against airborne Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, achieving a kill rate of up to 99.96%. It also effectively eliminates allergenic dust mites. Furthermore, it can decompose harmful compounds released by dead bacteria.
4. Hydrophilic, anti-fouling, and self-cleaning function
TO2 photocatalyst effectively purifies water pollution and removes organic harmful substances from water. Its surface exhibits hydrophilicity, providing anti-fogging, easy cleaning, and rapid drying properties. Moreover, its powerful oxidizing ability can break down oily contaminants on the surface, enabling it to form a self-cleaning coating upon application, thereby keeping the coated surface consistently fresh and new.
