Things to Keep in Mind When Cleaning Your Air Conditioner’s Filter
1. First, unplug the air conditioner’s power cord. Only by working with the unit de-energized can we best ensure our physical and mental safety. Open the internal panel cover; as you do so, pay close attention and locate the corners of the panel. Use both hands to gently pull on the corners and apply a slight amount of pressure to release the panel.
2. After opening the panel, you will see two small filters. Do not pull them hard—instead, locate the retaining clips and gently push upward. The filters will then pop out of the clips. Once the air-conditioner filters are removed, fill a basin with lukewarm water, add a neutral detergent, scrub with an old brush, and rinse thoroughly with clean water.
3. Place the cleaned filter in a cool, well-ventilated area. Be sure to keep it out of direct sunlight, as exposure can cause the filter to deform. Also, never install a wet filter directly into the air conditioner, as this may lead to electrical malfunctions. Once the filter is completely dry, reinsert it in its original orientation. If it gets stuck on the lower retaining clip, simply close the front panel, and the air conditioner can be used as normal.
